As this week progresses, I am starting to confront a few things that I forgot about Michigan. I inched forward at the stop light to make a left turn and the oncoming traffic cleared so I made my turn. As I was turning, I realized that the left turn light was red. It was at this moment that quickly realized that there is rarely a red light for a left turn if general traffic has a green light. So, this sparked this blog about a few things I forgot about Michigan. The other one is that toward downtown Detroit there are service drives along the highway and you have to drive around in a square to get on the freeway in the direction you want. The most obvious driving adjustment is, of course, the "Michigan Left" turn which is something of an adjustment when giving driving directions. Most importantly, I forgot how many police officers there are and that they do actually check for speeding. I am super grateful for the grid-like street layout of the Detroit area as I re-learn my way around.
